贵阳学院外国语学院源于贵阳学院外语系和大学外语教学部，是为贵州省和贵阳市培养外语人才的主要基地。其历史悠久，文化积淀深厚。坚持以培养高质量应用型外语人才为目标，为社会经济发展输送了大批具有坚实专业学科知识、综合素质高的优秀外语人才。现设有英语、日语两个本科专业和大学外语教学部、研究生英语教学部。学院现有教职工51人，其中专任教师46人,包括教授1人、副教授37人、讲师6人、助教2人;博士3人，硕士研究生33人，硕士以上学历的教师占教师总数的78%。每年有多名来自英国、美国、澳大利亚、新西兰等国的外籍教师在我院任教。近年来，发表学术论文200余篇，出版学术专著及教材10余部；承担国家级项目1项，省部级项目8项，教育厅项目20项。

学院拥有独立的教学楼，教学设施先进完善。专业英语主要开设课程为:综合英语、英语听力、英语口语、英语阅读、英语写作、英语国家文化、英美文学、英汉/汉英翻译、英语口译、语言学概论、英语教学法、学术论文写作等，同时开设日语、西班牙语、俄语、韩语和泰语作为第二外语课程。此外，非英语专业开设的“大学英语”课程实行分级教学，通过设置A、B两个不同层次的班级，使不同起点的非英语专业学生能有较好的英语学习切入点，最大程度地提高其英语水平。

Introduction to the School of Foreign Languages

The School of Foreign Languages (SFL) of Guiyang University is derived from the formerForeign Languages Department

and College Teaching Department. It is one of the main bases for cultivating foreignlanguage personnel for Guiyang city and Guizhou province. SFL has a unique culture and a long history. With a goal to"cultivatehigh-quality foreign language personnel in an application-oriented context", SFL has produced many excellent foreign language personnel with solid professional knowledge and comprehensivequalities, making great contributions to the development of the local society and economy. Presently, SFL offers English major andJapanese major, and is in charge of two other teaching departments,Foreign Language Teaching Departmentfor non-English major undergraduates and English Teaching Departmentfor non-English major graduate students.

Currently, there are 51 staff members working in SFL, among whom are 46 professional teachers, includingone professor,37associate professors, and 6lecturers.3 teachers hold a doctor’s degree and 33 teachers hold a master’s degree, taking up 78% of the teaching staff.International teachers come to the SFL every year fromEnglish-speakingcountries such as the UK, theUS, Australia andNew Zealand. In recent years, SFLstaffhave published more than 200academic papers in professional journals, ten academic monographs and textbooks andshouldered one national-level research program, eight provincial-level social science programs, as well astwentyresearch programs sponsored by the Department of Education of Guizhou Province. The project, Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, was given the university-level key discipline award, and the Comprehensive English Teaching Team washonored a provincial-level Project for Elite Courses and Quality Courses.

SFL is located in "Yifu Teaching Building”,a very beautiful building with advanced teaching and research equipment. SFL offers numerous courses including English Pronunciation, English Listening, Oral English, English Reading, English Grammar, Comprehensive English, English Writing, Culture of English-speaking Countries, British and American Literature, Translation between English and Chinese, Interpretation between English and Chinese, Linguistics, and Research Paper Writing. SFLalso offers Japanese,Spanish, Russian, Korean and Thaifor undergraduates majoring in English and Japaneseas second foreign languages. In addition, two different syllabuses forthe College English course for non-English majorsare set for specific studentsbytheir Englishlevel. The students are enrolled in Class A or B respectively according to their performance onaplacement test, so that their English proficiency can be improved effectively.
